Archive for June, 2013

Last Thursday the Free Concert in the Park drew around 300 people.   The weather was perfect, the band was terrific, and everyone had a great time.  We upgraded this year by adding food trucks, a jump playground, dog sitting, and the FIDO truck.  We want to thank our sponsors, The Cubs and 7/11, for making this possible.  We also want to recognize Gretchen Drury and Christina Bias for organizing the event.  Finally, we couldn’t do this without the cooperation and support of Bob Geraghty at the Chicago Park District. Our next concert will be August 22nd.

The secret is out — and the neighborhood doors are open

Buena Park, that hidden gem by the lake, is offering Chicagoans a rare opportunity to discover a classic Chicago neighborhood. Tucked in between Lakeview and Uptown, Buena Park is architecturally significant, culturally diverse, artistically innovative—and a whole lot of fun. Come see for yourself at the neighborhood’s inaugural summer festival, Buena Park Open Day, when the neighborhood surrenders its title as Chicago’s best-kept secret and offers up tours and tamales, food and family fun, music, workshops, art and more. Like the neighborhood itself, everyone is welcome. Please join us!

Buena Park Arts Expo

The Buena Park Arts Expo at 4101 N. Broadway is a project to transform the old cleaners at that location into a place of creativity and community. Many residents have been contributing their time and energy to clearing out the past to make the present possible. Check out these pictures of progress thus far.

We are looking for volunteers! Contact artsexpo@buenaparkneigbhors.org. Watch for updates on the Arts Expo page and on our Facebook page. Programs run June – July 2013.
