Clean & Green A Success!

Clean & Green 2010

Clean & Green 2010More than 30 volunteers participated in BPN’s Clean & Green Volunteer Neighborhood Spring Clean-up on Saturday, May 22.  Thanks to the good turnout, we were able to clean up a great deal of the neighborhood, including the abandoned Kentuky Fried Chicken lot at Buena and Broadway, which took the collective efforts of the entire group to tackle.  After all the hard work was done, the group kicked back and enjoyed some well earned pizza and drinks.
BPN would like to thank:
  • The BPN Block Captains for getting the word out
  • The volunteers for all their hard work making Buena Park shine
  • Don Nowotny, the 46th Ward’s Streets and Sanitation Superintendent, for supplying us with bags, rakes, shovels and brooms
  • Dollop Coffee, for donating our door prize — a $20 Dollop gift card
  • Clean & Green 2010Standard Bank, for donating individual pocket-sized hand sanitizer dispensers — a true godsend after the KFC lot!
  • Michael’s Pizza, for providing the delicious pizza
Mark your calendars for our next Clean & Green Clean-up, which will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 10 am to noon.

Check this out, Buena Park! 20×200, one BPN board member’s favorite source for original art on the cheap, just released this print called “Kite Hill” by Chicago artist Paul Octavious. It is a depiction of an incredibly vibrant and diverse community converging on Cricket Hill at Montrose Harbor during what we believe is the annual Mayor Daley’s Kids and Kites Festival.

A quick browse around Paul’s website revealed a whole set of stunning photos and even video of this beloved mound of green goodness just north of Buena Park’s boundaries along the lakefront.

Visit the 20×200 website to learn more or purchase “Kite Hill.” Limited-edition signed prints start at just $20 for an 8×10″!

Sedgwick Development
Meetings on Proposed Development
May 20th and May 27th, 5:30-7:30pm

Sedgwick Development is planning two community meetings to discuss their proposal for the Maryville lot, which is just over Buena Park’s northern border.  Considering they are proposing several hundred units, and a construction schedule of 5 years, we hope you will attend one of the two proposed meetings and voice your concerns and ask your questions, so the Alderman’s office and the developers understand what we think.

The first meeting is May 20th, and the second meeting is May 27th. Both meetings will run from 5:30pm-7:30pm and are Open House format, so participants do not have to arrive exactly at 5:30pm.

Please see the flyer for more information, and please post the flyer in your hallways and community boards to help spread the word.  Attendance is very important to reinforce to the developers that we are invested in this process.
